Yesterday my daughter, Kayla, and I drove to Loganville, Ga, which is about 2 hours or so from here. Dropped her off to meet up with family for a birthday dinner, and I traveled over to Lela Walker's Day Spring Ranch. She was having to downsize her herd since she was moving on very short notice to a smaller place.
As a result, I got very lucky and was able to purchase two bottle baby Nigerian Dwarf bucklings (aged 8 and 9 weeks) for a very reasonable price. While they didn't come with their registration papers, she did let me know that they were born and bred on Little Tot's Estate, also in Loganville, which is owned by Rusty Repp, a Nigerian Dwarf goat breeder and a respected ADGA and NDGA judge. When Kayla was showing her Pygmy goats in Coweta County's 4-H Goat Program quite a few years ago, he was the judge at several of the shows. So, very nice stock.
Anyway, the new bucks settled into their pen as if they had always lived there, even jumping up on their igloo to be able to get closer. They are both in good shape, and for their first day here, they received some standard veterinary care: Covexin-8 vaccines, dewormed with Ivermectin, started on Amprollium, and received some electrolytes and vitamins in their water bottles. Stools were a little loose yesterday evening and overnight, but they have firmed back up again.
Intended to drive to Chattanooga, Tennessee today to take photos of the fall foliage, visit the Tennessee Aquarium, and swing by and pick up the BEW doe, Hop-A-Long's Lilly, at Becca's Bouncin' Bunnies. Great plan. Got on the road after doing morning chores and the Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) light started flickering on and off. Thought I was hearing a roaring noise and feeling a vibration, too, but not totally convinced since it was windy today and starting to rain. Got north of Atlanta and the roaring noise and vibration got worse. Stopped and called my nephew who is a mechanic. He felt pretty sure it was the wheel bearings and hub assembly on my four wheel drive going bad, so, we turned around and came back home. I rescheduled the rabbit pickup for next Saturday, and my truck will get to go to the shop tomorrow to get fixed.
I took pictures around the place once I got back home, especially of the two new bucklings. And I put Dutchess in with JD for several hours as a first breeding. Can't wait to see how she does as a first time mom.
