Rabbit Juniors
This page will have all of the young (less than 6 month old) Netherland Dwarf and Holland Lop rabbits that we are watching. These rabbits may eventually be sold, many may be shown, and some will likely end up in our breeding program. Those rabbits pictured may still be in the nest box, but photos will be updated periodically as they grow and develop, including developing attitudes. The little BEW buckling pictured was SCFR's Elmer Fudd, who died too young, but he had quite the character and funny attitude. LOL.
Current juniors I'm watching:
Juniors are rabbits that are under 6 months of age.
I wean my rabbits at 5 to 8 weeks of age, depending upon the condition of the mom and the kits, the time of the year, and the size of the litter. When I wean my kits, I place them in a nursery cage that is large enough for the young bunnies to still be together, but have lots more room to run, play, grow, and develop.
In the nursery pen, I watch them closely to make sure that they are eating and drinking on their own, and that they are making the adjustment to living without mom as well as can be expected. Over the next few weeks, I will then separate the boys from the girls, and then any of the bigger bullies of either sex will go on into their own separate cages.
By the time they are 10-12 weeks old, each of the juniors is in their own cage. It is at this time that I really start looking at them to decide who to keep and who just doesn't fit the program. I've already made some preliminary decisions by the time they are weaned from their mom, but I give them time to either prove me right or wrong.
I look at conformation and type, color, size/weight, ear length and shape, as well as pedigree, and then make some decisions based on the rabbits already in the program and what I'm needing to add, especially in light of crossing bloodlines for desired traits, and in trying to correct issues that are already present.
Bunnies that are added here in the junior page, are the current juniors that are in the nest box on up to the age that I decide to either retain them or sell them. If you are interested in one on this page, let me know so that if it becomes available, I can let you know.

Sweet girl left us way too soon, but she gave us a litter of 7 adorable buns by our broken black Lionlop buck, Picasso. All of her buns seem to be as sweet and adorable as she was. She will definitely be missed. We have retained a buck of hers, PJ.
