Hard to believe that Lilly's litter is 9 days old already. The kits are fat, furry, wriggly, and getting ready to open their eyes. Kit #4, which is Kayla's favorite and will likely be named Elmer's Glue (regardless of gender), has already started opening its eyes and you can see a hint of the blue eyes.
Dutchess' litter is 6 days old already, and instead of 2 BEW's and a VM like I initially thought, Kit #1 is a VM, and while I am not exactly sure of color I think it is a Frosty Pearl Point. The backs and edges of the ears, and the top of the tail have a slight "ticked" look to them, which started out looking bluish, but today there is a little bit of a very light brown/beige tint to the coat. Even in this photo of Kit #1 to the left, you can see the edge of the white marking around the neck/over the shoulders, as well as the white forepaw. Hope it's a doe!
Since about 3 days of age with Lilly's litter I have had to pull the nest box and only give it to her twice daily since she was urinating in the box. She has done great with this arrangement.
Tonight, since it is the coldest that it has been at night since Dutchess' litter was born, I have pulled her nestbox and put it in the closet with Lilly and her pulled nestbox. Will be interesting to see Dutchess' reaction in the morning. Hopefully she will be ok with the kits being gone all night long.
Tried sexing the kits tonight. That was a joke. According to my bad eyesight, I think all of Lilly's kits are male, and only the light VM kit in Dutchess' litter is female. So hope that is wrong. Really don't want 6 bucks and 1 doe out of 7 new kits. Guess we'll see as they grown and little bitty pieces parts get bigger and more easily identifiable.
Talked with Kayla tonight about using her Holland Lop black buck to cross on a Holland Lop doe to get a few lops to sell periodically, since they seem to sell so well. Will do a little more thinking about it before we decide.
